It has been announced that the parent company of Lidl is going to acquire the German waste company Tonsmeier Group. Schwarz, described as a ‘German retail giant’, is set to expand with the deal which will see it grow the number of environmental services it offers as well as further internationalise the company.

The acquisition will be made via GreenCycle which is a part of the Schwarz Group and currently offers recycling and waste disposal services to other members of the group. For example it current;y collects and recycles materials in Lidl stores. It also provides similar services for other companies.

The manager of GreenCycle, Dietmar Bohm, has spoken of how the acquisition aims to improve and promote recycling within the sector. He said: “GreenCycle pursues a clear growth strategy, aiming to establish itself in the market as a driver of the environmental service branch with sustainable innovations. This acquisition expands GreenCycle’s customer segment, and the company intends to use the services and solutions of the Tönsmeier Group to tighten cycle systems and promote recycling and recyclability.”
