Waste Management
AWS specialise in handling problematical and hazardous
wastes.
Our experienced technical
teams can organise the collection and disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous
waste in accordance with the ever changing legislative and environmental
standards applicable in the UK.
AWS
is a leading independent company in this difficult market.
Hazardous
Waste is hazardous when it contains properties that might
make it harmful to our health or the environment.
Hazardous waste now includes items such as televisions, computer
monitors, oily rags, fluorescent lighting, end-of-life vehicles as well as the
more traditional wastes such as asbestos, waste oils, corrosive liquids etc.
AWS specialise in the collection of these wastes and making
the correct decisions on how to handle them whether this be through transfer
stations, recycling centres or specialist treatment and disposal sites.
Problemmatical
Wastes can be a problem to the producers for a variety of
reasons. These can vary from the
wastes location, physical properties and handling characteristics to the
available methods of treatment, recycling or disposal.
AWS specialise in designing bespoke waste solutions that are
both technically advanced and legally compliant and give the customer the peace
of mind that their wastes are being handled in a safe and cost effective manner.
Asbestos
Asbestos waste is ‘Hazardous Waste’ when it contains more
than 0.1% asbestos and all asbestos waste is subject to Schedule 2 of the
Control of Asbestos Regulations 2006 and most waste is subject to the Carriage
of Dangerous Goods (etc) Regulations 2004 (CDG).
AWS are
one of the countries leading companies in transporting and disposing of asbestos
wastes. Our dedicated fleet of RORO
vehicles coupled with our technical expertise and buying power allows us to
provide the most cost effective, legally compliant solution to our customers.
Non Hazardous
Non-hazardous waste is waste which does NOT feature on the
list of hazardous waste in the European Waste Catalogue.
Safe, legal handling of waste can be a difficult subject to understand.
Consequently AWS take great care to
comply with all relevant legislation and to ensure that by our on line reporting
your company is keeping track of its waste and its effect on the environment.
All the waste disposal and recycling sites we use are audited to ensure they are
licensed and maintained within strict environmental controls, providing only the
highest standards of treatment, recycling and disposal.
AWS can provide all the waste management services you need -
trade waste, skip, roll on/off, mobile and on-site static compaction together
with waste minimisation and recycling programmes. A sophisticated on line reporting service is provided via a password
protected area on our web site and all services
are delivered promptly, professionally and cost efficiently, both locally and
nationally.
Drums & Packaged Waste
AWS services range from the one-off removal of laboratory
materials, providing listing and labelling services to regular consignments of
205 litre drums and 1000 litre intermediate bulk containers.
Our expert chemists can assess your packaged waste, providing
testing and analysis services when necessary and then undertaking any
repackaging and labelling that may be required to ensure that the waste is
removed in the safest most cost effective manner.
Bulk Liquids
Liquid waste can undergo various treatments and
processes in order to ensure safe disposal, recovery or recycling. Whatever the
required process, AWS can provide solutions designed to give you total peace of
mind. Treatments include:
• Physico chemical treatment involving neutralisation, solid elimination and
discharge to sewer
• Composting of organic wastes (see below)
• Incineration of highly toxic or non treatable wastes
• Treatment and blending to make substitute fuels
• Consolidation
• Biological treatment
Recycling and Recovery
After reuse this represents the top of the waste hierarchy
and as such is AWS’s preferred route for handling wastes.
AT AWS our specialist technical services can manage your
mono stream recycling requirements, whether this be plastic, wood, paper, glass
or metal wastes
ensuring they are handled
safely and cost effectively through our audited nationwide network of advanced
processing facilities.
Alternatively, we can offer a Dry Mixed Recycling service,
so all of your recyclable wastes, cardboard, paper, plastic films and bottles,
steel and aluminium cans etc. can be collected in one container and effectively
process to maximise recycling percentages.
Above all, we aim to deliver an easy, cost effective and
sustainable process that will increase your recycling rates.
Composting
Composting has been described as ‘nature's way of
recycling’. Composting biodegrades a
wide range of organic wastes, both solid and liquid, breaking them down into a
harmless residue or in some cases a valuable organic fertiliser.
Industrial composting systems are increasingly being installed as a waste
management alternative to landfills and AWS have used their technical expertise
to develop a network of sites that we use.
All of these have been audited to ensure the highest standards of
legislative and environmental compliance allowing us to offer our customers a
safe, environmentally friendly, cost effective solution.
Waste Disposal
Waste disposal is the lowest level of the waste hierarchy and
as such is only used by AWS in the last resort.
However, when required our customers can relax knowing that we will use our technical
expertise to ensure that the most appropriate, cost effective solution will be
provided.
All facilities are audited
by our trained personnel to ensure that they are licensed and maintained within
strict environmental controls, providing only the highest standards of disposal.
