The aim of this document is to provide guidance on the use of the European Waste Catalogue (EWC 2002). It reproduces the EWC 2002 in full, including amendments.
UK businesses produce over 75million tonnes per annum of commercial and industrial waste, and as a waste producer you have certain obligations under the Environmental Protection Act 1990 to ensure it is properly controlled and managed.
The new Hazardous Waste (England and Wales) Regulations 2005 will be implemented on 16th July 2005.
From 30th October 2007, under new European-wide legislation, all non-hazardous waste must be treated before it can be landfilled and the Environment Agency is placing the responsibility for compliance on waste producers.
