Acumen Waste Services:: Industrial Case Study 2
Industrial - Case Study 2
Acumen’s review of recycling operation reduces risks, improves
efficiency and optimises profits for metal recycling customer
Our customer is part of a global group of companies that operates in the metals recycling and processing industry. It presented unique waste management issues such as . .
- the company was reliant upon a specific reprocessing facility for one of its by-products. The by-product was classed as hazardous waste, because it had pyrophoric properties. The potential for the material to spontaneously ignite in air gave our customer a distinct set of challenges
- our customer believed that civil constraints at the production facility meant that material could only be removed from site in roll on/off containers with a payload of 15 tonnes
- given the volumes being moved, cost was a major issue
Acumen was asked to investigate the issues and to design a cost effective innovative solution . . .
- we investigated local operating procedures and established that the reprocessing facility did not have these civil constraints. They could accept the material by bulk tipper with a payload of 28 tonnes
- Acumen established and managed the use of a specific, covered hazardous waste transfer station. Through this the by-product was accepted for safe, segregated, dry storage and transfer to bulk tippers, resulting in a cost effective transport operation.
Acumen provided its customer with a cost effective safe solution by using its legislative knowledge and technical ability to provide a cost effective solution.
Clear thinking . . . .
