Waste from Soft Drinks manufacturer becomes compost that transforms landfill sites – innovative thinking from Acumen
This blue chip manufacturer in the soft drinks manufacturing sector already had good environmental standards. However, they had a difficult waste stream and required assistance from Acumen.
They asked us to resolve the following issues:
- their production process produced a liquid waste effluent. This was being disposed of through a traditional waste treatment plant
- this disposal option was extremely expensive for both transport and disposal
- our customer’s disposal options were limited and difficult to monitor. In turn, these removal methods reduced the transparency of the disposal route. Consequently, this affected their legal compliance
Acumen Waste Services worked with the company to design an innovative solution.
Our brief was to re-direct the liquid waste effluent from the traditional disposal option. We needed to find a more cost-effective and environmentally sustainable route.
As a result of Acumen’s review and planning, we proposed the following:
- our customer’s waste stream was organic in nature and ideally suited to composting. The material was trialled and proved to be suitable for this process
- the compost that stems from our customer’s waste is now used as remediation for local landfill sites, turning former eyesores into green areas for use by the local community
- Acumen's solution was innovative and fully in line with the Company’s environmental objectives. We also helped our customer to reduce costs and become fully compliant with applicable legislation
Acumen’s involvement provided a sustainable solution for what had previously been a long term problem for this company.
Our customer now benefits from reduced costs and an environmental solution that fits their corporate culture and image.
They subsequently asked Acumen Waste Services to review all of their waste solutions.
