Construction - Case Study 1
Acumen's review drives tailor made waste management strategy
across multi-site building material manufacturers
This Acumen customer is a leading manufacturer of building materials. They operate from many sites across the UK.
The company conducted a review of its waste management practices. This review was in response to impending changes in waste legislation. They identified:
- the multi-site, national nature of their operation created local waste management issues. There was a lack of consistency, no best practice, and excess cost was being incurred through local procurement
- recycling and product recovery efficiencies differed from site to site. Potentially re-usable waste materials were being disposed of
- increasing legislative requirements were having an impact, in terms of cost and compliance
Acumen was chosen by the company as their specialist total waste management provider. Following a comprehensive audit of all sites, nationwide, Acumen designed a company wide solution. This has resulted in:
- every site having a tailor-made waste management solution in place. Each location has a single point of contact in Acumen. They also benefit from regular site visit support and a significant cost reduction at all sites
- a continuous end-to-end review of waste management requirements, in line with changing site requirements, changes in legislation and the availability of new technology
- improved recycling and product recovery performance, combined with best practice across the business. Our customer has an improved SHE and environmentally compliant image
Acumen now provides this customer with an ongoing integrated waste management package, throughout the country, and secures cost reductions at every single site.
Through working with Acumen, the company is able to understand and respond to upcoming changes in legislation which will affect its business.
