Acumen’s customer, a chemical manufacturer, operates from several sites in the UK, where it manufactures a range of colorants, optical brightening agents and chemicals.
Our customer recognised they had significant environmental issues. They also had waste management practices that were increasingly expensive to maintain in their competitive market.
In particular they had issues with:
- several difficult waste streams with limited and expensive disposal options
- legislative changes specifically aimed at hazardous waste disposal
- risk to production performance if waste was managed incorrectly
- differing and inconsistent waste management practices across all sites
Our customer selected Acumen Waste Services as their Total Waste Manager because we have significant experience in this highly specialised sector, with the credentials to manage a complex, multi-site, national account.
Following a comprehensive review of all of our customer’s sites, Acumen’s role included:
- providing cost effective waste solutions for all their existing waste streams. We delivered a significant reduction in total costs
- the implementation of internal segregation systems – Acumen helped to increase recycling and improve waste minimisation on all sites
- improving best practice, SHE and legislative compliance across all the sites. We also provided advance notice and strategic advice in anticipation of potentially impacting legislative change
- maximising our customer’s awareness of a range of waste issues, and recommending appropriate solutions. At the same time we minimised the management time spent by our customer having to deal with day to day waste management issues
